Job SummaryActs as a resource to the Manager, Nursing Staff and Health Team members by coordinating patient care activities and communicating patient information to the appropriate individuals.
Through clinical, educational, administrative and research roles, the Supervisor, Clinical Nursing is accountable for their actions in the delivery of patient care. They provide nursing care to a patient population using the nursing process which entails assessment, diagnostic formulation, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
Is required to maintain an extensive and diverse knowledge base, flexibility in practice and the need to be adaptable to changes in technology, legislation and nursing practice. Incorporates ethical and legal requirements in their professional practice as a member of the health care team.
Job Duties- 1. Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.
- 2. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information.
- 3. Ensures that within their practice of their assigned unit patient’s physiological, psychological and spiritual needs are met.
Clinical Component
- Facilitates the RN in advocating on behalf of patients and family/significant others in dealing with difficult, ethical, legal and cultural issues.
- Facilitates the RN in involving the patient, family/significant others in all stages of the care planning, as appropriate.
- Facilitates the RN in making clinical decisions and exercising judgment about the care provided to patients.
- Provides resource support for the RN to initiate, implement, direct and evaluate a nursing plan of care.
- Acts as a clinical resource contact to the RN for patients, families/significant others, nursing staff, other members of the health care team and external agencies.
- Collaborates and communicates with the RN, Manager, Nursing Practitioners/specialists and the Clinical Educator.
- In collaboration with the Manager, makes critical decisions independently and timely.
- Facilitates the RN to exercise judgment in the implementation of the multidisciplinary plan.
- Facilitates the RN, in absence of other health team members, to take independent action in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the plan of care. Make changes as needed.
- Facilitates the RN in initiating referrals to appropriate personnel based on knowledge of the scopes of practice of the health care team, delegating activities to appropriate personnel and evaluating the outcome.
- Facilitates the clinical team in using concepts of time management, group process, communication, conflict management, problem solving and decision making.
- Participates in the Quality Assurance program in collaboration with the Manager.
- Articulates the philosophy of nursing standards of practice and standards of care.
- Participates in the delivery of educational programs to meet the personal learning needs of their practice and of the patients, families/significant others, students, peers and other health professionals.
- Collaborates with RNs, Manager, Nurse Practitioners/Specialists and Clinical Educators.
- Acts as a resource to the RN in meeting education needs of the patients and families/significant others.
- Identifies own professional growth needs and seeks opportunities to meet their needs as they engage in continuous learning strategies for clinical competence and to advance knowledge.
- Demonstrates leadership in the provision of nursing care to ensure quality patient care is maintained.
