Description

Reports clinically to the Practice Site Physician(s) and administratively to the Practice Manager/Director. Under the direction of the physician(s), they are responsible for the coordination and delivery of care for BMG patients. Educates patients regarding health promotion, illness prevention and disease management.

Coordinates and provides professional medical care for BMG patients by:
  • Assessing the patients' medical history and performing physical examinations, as appropriate for scope of practice.
  • Evaluating and treating injuries within scope of practice.
  • Administering medications and injections, as prescribed.
  • Educating patients regarding health promotion, illness prevention and disease management.
  • Documenting, coding and completing diagnosis of patient's condition to facilitate appropriate insurance reimbursement.
Keeps abreast of all pertinent legislation and maintains clinical expertise by:
  • Attending and participating in related seminars, conferences and educational offerings, as approved.
  • Reading current professional medical and nursing journals.
  • Developing and maintaining affiliation with professional organizations.
Contributes to the overall effectiveness of assigned BMG facility by:
  • Assisting in planning changes in clinic/office procedures to improve the quality and delivery of health care.
  • Participating in Quality Improvement programs; monitoring quality and outcomes of care rendered.
  • Assisting in development and compliance of clinical protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of all pertinent legislation and relating to physicians and staff.
  • Communicating with physicians to ensure the quality and timeliness for services rendered to patients.
  • Completing other job related duties as assigned.
Organizational Responsibilities Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established time frames.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established time frames.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect the patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an accredited master’s program, current Indiana license, board certification as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant and a minimum of two years’ experience is preferred, primarily in an acute care or emergency department setting. Will consider new graduates for full-time positions.

  • Demonstrates a high level of analytical ability necessary to assess patients and evaluate services rendered.
  • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills necessary to interact in a professional manner with patients and families, physicians and other health care professionals.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to disseminate information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Demonstrates an ability to function within legal boundaries and professional scope of practice and utilize knowledge of governing statutes and rules.
Working Conditions
  • Works in a clinical environment with some exposure to biohazards.
Physical Demands
  • Requires physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs, lift up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds without assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
