iENG Design, part of IMI Companies, seeks a skilled Preconstruction Engineer to join our team in Granite City, IL. The role focuses on HVAC design and preconstruction support, collaborating with clients, project management, estimating, and engineering teams to deliver strong value engineering and cost‑effective solutions.
Primary Responsibilities- Coordinate with customers to develop conceptual design for various facilities.
- Provide technical expertise in mechanical systems, including HVAC, ductwork, and piping.
- Review cost estimates, budgets, and proposals for mechanical systems.
- Collaborate with project management to review requirements, scope, and specifications during preconstruction.
- Conduct value‑engineering analyses to optimize project costs.
- Work with estimating to develop and review bid packages, solicit quotes, and analyze bids.
- Interpret project plans, specifications, and other documents to identify potential risks, constructability issues, and opportunities.
- Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and client meetings as needed.
- Prepare and present technical presentations to clients, architects, engineers, and stakeholders.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
- Collaborate with the project team to transition projects to construction, including handover of documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- 2‑5+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in construction or design.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
- Ability to interpret and analyze technical documents.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license is a plus.
- Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and mechanical standards.
- Familiarity with construction processes and project management principles.
