Schedule: 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm
Location: TBDFLS
Class Status: Non‑exempt
Pay: $21.34/hour
Summary
This position is responsible for providing an atmosphere that is conducive to the learning situation, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, and doing preventive maintenance on equipment.
General Duties
Work cooperatively with the Building Principal, Lead Custodian, and Supervisor of Facilities Management to ensure a smooth and efficient operation of the school plan.Perform duties as assigned by the work schedule set by the Building Principal, Lead Custodian, and Supervisor of Facilities Management.Review schedule and work the shift as assigned.Dust mop the gym floor, stage, and bleachers.Dust mop and wet mop classroom floors and hallways.Vacuum rugs and carpet floors.Change light bulbs as needed.Empty trash and carry to dumpster.Service, clean, and stock supplies in restrooms.Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not present.Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.Assist with removing snow as needed and where appropriate.Survey classrooms daily and dust/polish appropriate furniture, files, bookcases, and windowsills.Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.Scrub, mop, and disinfect restroom toilets and floors daily.Clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.Help keep grounds free of rubbish.Clean chalkboards/marker boards and trays daily.Report any major repairs needed to the Building Principal, Lead Custodian or Supervisor of Facilities Management.Clean all cafeteria chairs, tables, and benches.Disinfect door handles and door knobs as needed.Wash all interior windows daily. Classroom windows and exterior windows should be cleaned as needed.Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities, as directed.Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash and waste.Perform emergency repairs and/or cleaning services as needed.Keep storage rooms neat and orderly. Dispose of all cardboard.Pick up and clean after any extracurricular activities or events.Deep clean carpets and rugs.Adhere to all rules, regulations, policies and practices of the Board of Education and to all state and federal regulations which are applicable to custodial operations.Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal, Lead Custodian and Supervisor of Facilities Management.Qualifications
- General knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
- Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
- Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs, carry up to 50 lbs, and push/pull up to 50 lbs.
Scheduling
The work hours for this position are from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The schedule is subject to change with district demands. May be required to work on weekends or holidays for the continued operation of the school. Overtime is required upon request.
Terms of Employment
Union 12‑month position. Evaluation by Supervisor of Facilities Management, in accordance with the Granite City Community Unit School District #9 Board of Education policy, will evaluate performance of the job annually.
