Shift Manager Utilities

United States Steel Corporation has an immediate opening for a Shift Manager Utilities at our Granite City, IL facility. This position is responsible for motivating and directing individual team members in the daily operations of the Ironmaking Utilities area and the Cogeneration Facility.

• Administer the U. S. Steel safety program to ensure a safe work environment, including proper housekeeping
• Directly supervise union employees and work closely with vendors and contractors
• Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers and assign duties accordingly
• Coordinate, organize, and direct activities of maintenance crews
• Assists workers in diagnosing malfunction in machinery and equipment
• Maintain proper inventories of required spares in order to provide efficient operations
• Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance with a team of mechanical/electrical maintenance staff
• Use technical knowledge, equipment documentation, safety procedures, and maintenance schedules to follow, improve, and develop preventative and routine maintenance programs
• Devise and implement cost saving strategies
• Develop and implement methods and procedures designed to eliminate maintenance problems and improve product quality
• Perform administrative activities such as scheduling crews, completing reports, conducting safety conversations, and complying other reporting as necessary

• High School diploma or GED required
• 2-year technical degree is preferred
• Minimum of 1 year experience with operational and mechanical background on Turbines and pumps, fuels and steam generation, water treating and cooling water systems, power distribution systems and other related utility systems.
• Preferred candidate will have experience supervising unionized employees or similar military leadership experience.
• Ability to work rotating shifts which will include extended workdays, weekends, and holidays

Base salary range $90,000 - $105,000. This base salary range is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
