Job Summary

Full Time Days – Requires at least two years of RN experience.

Unit 14400/14500 Acute Care Medicine at Barnes‑Jewish Hospital (South Campus). 38‑Bed Unit.

• Eligible for Enhanced Sign‑On Bonus $20,000 OR $15,000 Sign‑On Bonus plus $15,000 Loan Repayment (Must have at least 2 yrs RN experience).
• Additional PTO following 90‑Days Employment (Must have at least 2 yrs RN experience).
• $5.00 per hour Med/Surg Differential on eligible shifts.

Acute Care Medicine treats patients with a full range of clinical issues – from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma and many other conditions. Due to the patient acuity, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning. Each unit is led by a clinical manager and a lead charge nurse.

The unit is supported by an advanced practice nurse, and also assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and families on how to manage illness or injury, including post‑treatment home care and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
• Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patients, families or caregivers in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
• Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
• Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.
