Traveling Quality Inspector
icon Mechanical is seeking qualified professionals to join our Quality team. We are a full-service mechanical contractor and construction firm specializing in fabrication, installation, modification, and ongoing service of process piping, power piping, boiler making, industrial equipment installation, industrial ventilation, and HVAC.
We are currently looking for a Traveling Quality Inspector. The location for this role is dependent on project needs. Our ideal candidate has 3+ years of experience in quality inspection with meticulous attention to detail and strong communication skills.
Primary Responsibilities- Conduct detailed reviews of project drawings and technical specifications to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
- Develop and manage QA/QC plans, review project documentation, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Lead coordination efforts including pre-installation conferences, weekly quality meetings, and subcontractor alignment.
- Conduct on-site inspections and testing (e.g., welds, bolts, pressure tests), oversee third-party evaluations, and enforce corrective actions.
- Maintain organized records of inspections, test results, and certifications; verify qualifications of vendors and installers.
- Coordinate sampling and testing schedules to avoid delays, collaborate with inspection entities, and support project closeout with final quality reporting.
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds or more and climb ladders safely and efficiently as part of routine job duties.
- Possess adequate visual capabilities including close-range vision, distance vision, color differentiation, and peripheral awareness to perform essential job functions safely and effectively.
- Possessing a weld inspection certification (CWI, VT-Level II, API, etc.) is preferred.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands or arms, and talk.
- Expertise in mechanical systems (HVAC, Piping, Plumbing, Sheet Metal) and associated codes and standards.
- Capable of periodic travel to job sites and fabrication shops as needed.
- Experienced in welding, brazing, fusing, testing, and examination.
- Analytical acumen with proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and test results.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement quality control processes and procedures.
- Strong communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentational.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, clients, and other contractors.
- Ability to work 6 days a week with 10‑hour shifts each day.
- Ability to be onsite at the job site for duration of the project.
- Eligible to travel home every 3-4 weeks for 2-3 days.
