Local Driver II – Granite City, IL
Position:
Local Driver II. Role is hourly, overtime‑eligible. Pay range: $25–$30 per hour.
Work schedule:
6:00 am – 2:30 pm. Pay schedule:
Weekly. Fully on‑site. Responsible for transporting raw materials and manufactured products across the United States and globally, with delivery locations within 150 miles of the campus.
- Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues, ensuring correct documentation.
- Comply with DOT rules, regulations, and company policies.
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions.
- Collect and verify delivery instructions.
- Report defects, accidents, or violations.
- Ensure trailers are locked out and chocked before loading/unloading.
- Maintain driver log according to DOT regulations.
- Maintain contact with supervisor, dispatcher, scale house operator to receive work instructions.
- Work in a timely, safe, and responsible manner to meet customer or company requirements.
- At least 22 years old with a minimum of 5 years of experience and a valid Class A CDL license.
- Clean driving record; no DOT‑defined accident citations in the prior three years.
- Pass DOT physical and drug screen.
- Knowledge of company policy and all federal, state, local laws governing vehicle operation.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to read and understand documents such as BOLs, freight logs, intermodal transfer documents, safety rules, operating manuals.
- Ability to use a digital camera and upload pictures according to company standards.
- Adaptability to change, multitasking, and managing competing priorities.
- Ability to learn quickly in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Extensive knowledge of truck driving rules and regulations.
- Situational awareness for unexpected conditions (traffic, weather).
- Safety champion: promote safe workplace, proper PPE use, safe operation of equipment, safe lifting.
- Physical ability to move frequently, stand, walk, sit, regularly lift up to 50 lbs, open containers, and perform required chores such as climbing into truck cab to service accounts and securing tarps.
