Apprentice HGV Mechanic

Hours: 37 Hours per week

Salary: Dependent on age, NMWU
18 (£15,435 per annum), NMW
1820 (£20,934 per annum), NLW
21 (£24,522 per annum)

Contract: Fixed Term for 36 Months

Receive hands-on training, support from experienced mentors and study towards a recognised qualification.

Work alongside experienced mechanics maintaining and repairing the Council's diverse fleet, helping to keep essential frontline services on the road.

Our Apprenticeships combine paid employment with off the job learning and nationally recognised qualifications.

No previous experience required - if you're enthusiastic, willing to learn and have an interest in vehicles, we'd love to hear from you. Full training will be provided.

• Learning to inspect, service and repair a wide range of Council vehicles and equipment.
• Carrying out routine maintenance and safety checks.
• Diagnosing faults using modern diagnostic equipment.
• Assisting with MOT preparation and repairs.
• Maintaining accurate service and repair records.
• Following health and safety procedures at all times.
• Working as part of a supportive and experienced workshop team.

We're looking for someone who:

• Has an interest in mechanics, engineering or vehicle maintenance.
• Enjoys practical, hands-on work.
• Is willing to learn and develop new skills.
• Has good communication skills and enjoys working as part of a team.
• Can solve problems and pay attention to detail.
• Is reliable, motivated and committed to completing the apprenticeship.
