Provides support for students in lab settings, including tutoring students and preparing labs for classes and special events.
This is an adjunct pool for tutoring in the health, pe and recreation (hper) department. The pool will remain open until june 2026 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available.
* tutors students who use the labs academically and may provide support to staff who use the labs as classrooms.
* schedules and prepares the labs for regular classes and special events.
* works with instructors and staff to maintain the labs as usable classrooms.
* assists in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the labs.
* regularly communicates with faculty, staff, and administration regarding student feedback and needs as they relate to lab use.
* assist in developing and maintaining supplemental materials for the lab as assigned.
* assist in marketing lab support services as assigned (meeting with faculty, helping with printed materials, etc.).
* performs other duties as assigned.
Education and experience:
hs diploma or ged required. Some coursework, other credential, and/or work experience in relevant subject area(s) required. Experience in an instructional lab setting and/or tutoring adult learners preferred.
Knowledge of: knowledge of computer applications for communication and learning - this may include but is not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, or various content specific software. Sensitivity to a diverse student body and its needs.
Skills:
must have excellent interpersonal skills. Active listening skills are a critical requirement, with the ability to be supportive to all students. Must have technology skills related to equipment or software used in the lab environment. Must be able to utilize zoom and other electronic means of communications.
Ability to: communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students and staff; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth; adapt to a variety of tutoring situations, including group tutoring and individual instruction; work and interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds; be a calming influence on the students who use the labs; protect the confidentiality of student information.
Pass a criminal background check.
Licenses: for assignments requiring the operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid oregon driver's license and proof of an acceptable driving record at the time of hire are required.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for less than half of the daily work period (about 40%), which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects.
The position requires some mobility, including moving materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and 25-60 pounds rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.
