JOB SUMMARY:

The Administrator is the leader of the school, and as such assumes full responsibility for all aspects of the school. The Administrator is responsible for building a positive climate and culture that accepts and welcomes ALL students, staff and community members. Using leadership skills the Administrator will promote the educational development of each student to prepare them for life, school and career while also supporting and developing staff and ensuring the day to day operations of the school are met.

Decision making should be collaborative and employ an equity lens. The Administrator must be familiar with state and federal law, District policies, Collective Bargaining Agreements and be able to use independent judgment and decision-making in matters not having established rules, regulations or policies.

The High School Assistant Principal supports the High School Administrative team by providing support with student discipline, observation, and evaluation of assigned teachers, the PLC process, monitoring implementation of curriculum goals and instructional practices. This position also oversees the high school athletic and extracurricular programs including managing athletic budgets, hiring coaching staff, and complying with all state athletic requirements. This position requires a high level of collaboration with the High School Administrative team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A valid State of Oregon Administrative License, appropriate for the position, issued by TSPC.
  • A Master’s degree with preferred emphasis in education.
  • Previous, successful experience in K-12 Public Education.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • The ability to effectively work, support and communicate with students, parents and school personnel from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based application systems.
  • Ability to learn new automated systems as they are brought online by the District.
  • Ability and experience working and leading Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  • Annually pass the District’s required online training, CPR/First Aid, and other training provided by the District.
  • Maintain current licenses and certifications required for the position.
  • Follow and maintain knowledge of all applicable District policies and procedures; follow and maintain knowledge of all current state and federal laws or administrative rules pertaining to public education.
  • Build relationships.
  • Lead and promote educational equity based on the principle that each student receives what is required for them to achieve success with regard to allocation of resources, opportunity, treatment and access.
  • Develop and implement an annual school improvement plan and equity plan that supports the values and strategic goals of the District.
  • Lead the staff in developing and adapting courses of study and school programs to achieve the goals of the District, school and State curriculum requirements.
  • Lead teacher participation in discussions and deliberations regarding instruction, staff development, budget and other programs.
  • Lead constructive and professionally sound instructional research by teachers in the use of new methods, materials and content.
  • Provide guidance and support.
  • Follow all District and applicable laws in regards to hiring.
  • Maintain open and effective lines of communication with students, parents, staff and community members.
  • Take appropriate actions to ensure student/staff safety and to protect citizens and their property.
