Position: Mathematics Instructor (Adjunct Pool)

Adjunct Faculty Pool
- Mathematics Department

This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching in the Mathematics department. The pool will remain open unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed, and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available. If at any time you decide that you are no longer interested in being considered, you may log in to the system and withdraw your application from the pool.

Typically, at the end of the year (or at any point we no longer have a hiring need for this department), we will close this pool and you will receive an email notification.

The instructor is responsible for the planning and implementation of various math courses. Instructors are required to create a course syllabus, instruct students in the subject matter in accordance with that syllabus, maintain attendance records, assess student progress and evaluate course work for a letter grade. The instructor will maintain college standards in all aspects of professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the team atmosphere of the math department of Rogue Community College.

- Essential Functions

1. Instructs students in a classroom, lab, learning center, or other setting as appropriate following RCC mathematics department curriculum.

2. Prepares, distributes, and utilizes all requisite instructional materials; including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other instructional support material to effectively instruct students.

3. Develops, communicates, and utilizes a student assessment process and instruments which are related to the stated objectives/outcomes of the course.

4. Participates as a team member in departmental meetings and planning activities.

5. Participates in curriculum planning and development as needed.

6. Engages in regular professional growth activity based on the objectives established in an approved professional growth plan.

7. Represents the Mathematics Department and the College to the community, businesses, public agencies, and other organizations in a professional manner.

8. Responsible for departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate to the department.

9. Adapt learning procedures to the online/distance learning environment, including telecourse and web-based delivery, ensuring comparable quality of instruction, student-teacher interaction, and assessment with classroom-based courses.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

11. Maintains regular communication with students through blackboard, email and myopenmath.

12. Maintains and professional and efficient blackboard shell for each class to deliver organized experience for students.

Screening Criteria

Education:

A Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics is required. A Master's Degree in Mathematics (or equivalent degree from an international university) or a Master's Degree plus equivalent advanced mathematics course work is preferred. Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Experience:

A minimum of two years' documented, successful teaching experience is required. Community college mathematics teaching at various levels ranging from developmental through college level mathematics is preferred.

Knowledge of:
The mathematics subject area taught; computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, blackboard, the Internet, multi-media presentations, spreadsheets and database management; curriculum development; the community colleges' mission, role in higher education, and student population; different pedagogical methods, including lecture, group activity, discussion, online and individual instruction to accommodate a variety of learning styles; and sensitivity to a diverse student body and its needs.

Ability to:
Communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and related educational duties, including the use of new technologies such as online instruction; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth. Pass a criminal background check.

Licenses:
For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record at the time of hire is are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days ( ORS 807.020 (1) ).
