About the Position

Lateral Police Officer position with the Grants Pass Police Department. A lateral officer must hold an active Oregon DPSST Police Officer certification or a current valid Police Officer certification from another state and have been employed as a certified Police Officer. Lateral Officers must meet Oregon DPSST physical requirements and the department’s requirements.

Benefits & Incentives

Base salary plus the following incentives (subject to verification):

  • Associate Degree – 2.5%
  • Bachelor Degree – 5%
  • Second language – 1.25%
  • DPSST Intermediate Certificate – 2.5%
  • DPSST Advanced Certificate – 4.0%

Associate and Bachelor Degree incentives are not cumulative.

Lateral Officer

Incentives:

  • Signing Bonus – $1,000 at the time of hire for qualifying officers, upon meeting eligibility requirements and years of experience.
  • Step at hire and accrual lump sums based on years worked as a sworn, full‑time officer (contact Human Resources for details).
Qualifications
  • Graduation from High School or GED and 1 year of work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform essential duties.
  • Must be 21 years of age at time of hire.
  • Meet physical standards as set by the Department of Public Safety on Standards and Training (DPSST).
  • Current certified Police Officer in Oregon or another state with reciprocity.
  • Residency requirement: within forty‑five (45) minutes from City limits as it exists within the Urban Growth Boundary (UGB).
