Position Title
Campus Security Officer
Position SummaryThe position involves performing unarmed, uniformed security patrols and executing crime prevention measures to protect life and property. The role includes supporting student and staff initiatives, cultivating positive community relationships, collaborating with administrators to address complaints, promptly reporting criminal incidents to local law enforcement, enforcing college policies, and documenting activities through report writing. It also encompasses conducting safety inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and mitigate hazards, identifying risks, implementing corrective measures, and maintaining a safe environment.
The Assistant Director of Risk Management provides daily supervision.
- Provides customer service, information, and assistance to students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
- Regularly patrols and inspects campus buildings and grounds to identify security concerns.
- Performs thorough investigations, gathering statements and conducting interviews.
- Safeguards confidentiality of information obtained while fulfilling responsibilities.
- Establishes proactive measures to deter and address criminal activity, especially trespassing.
- Responds promptly to fire, medical, and other emergencies, assessing situations and coordinating external assistance.
- Assumes on-scene incident command until higher‑ranking authorities arrive.
- Participates in emergency preparation drills and evaluations.
- Ensured to report to work during scheduled and unscheduled closures as directed.
- Conducts and documents scheduled inspections of safety and emergency equipment, verifying functionality of eye wash stations, emergency showers, first aid kits, blood borne pathogen kits, fire extinguishers, AEDs, and Narcan kits.
- May participate in college committees as assigned.

- Education – High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience – Minimum of one year as a security officer, or experience in law enforcement or military.
Only degrees from an accredited institution accredited by the Office of Degree Authorization, U.S. Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609 will be accepted. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.
Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience that ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s).
Preferred Qualifications- Completion of college‑level coursework in Criminal Justice or related fields.
- Graduation from a civilian or military law enforcement academy.
- Unarmed Professional Security License obtained through the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training from the State of Oregon.
- Understanding of current industry standards, best practices and campus security and safety regulations.
- Awareness of security strategies such as access control, surveillance systems, and perimeter security.
- Knowledge of customer service principles.
- Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Office and Teams.
- Knowledge of basic emergency response procedures (first aid/CPR, fire safety, evacuation protocols).
- Awareness of legal and ethical considerations including privacy laws and confidentiality requirements.
- Willingness to stay updated on new developments and technologies in campus security and safety.
