The Transitional Living Program (TLP) Skills Trainer provides skill building and behavioral services for clients in accordance with established program guidelines and service plans. Trainers ensure young adult clients (ages 18–21) receive the full range of care and treatment. They plan and facilitate groups, transport clients, provide coaching, and maintain program documentation. Trainers also provide a consistent presence, skills training, and emotional support in a safe, secure environment, complying with all organizational policies and applicable laws.

• Deliver and coordinate individual and group independent living skills training for young adult clients.
• Establish rapport by demonstrating and maintaining clear, consistent, and appropriate boundaries.
• Demonstrate alignment with Collaborative Problem Solving by utilizing its approaches in interactions with youth, families, staff, and community partners.
• Actively supervise and interact with young adults in the community and within the program milieu to maintain safety and provide services.
• Adjust behavioral approaches to developmental level and group dynamics.
• Provide transportation for youth and adult clients to appointments and activities.
• Coach within skill areas including independent living, wellness, education, coping skills, navigating the medical community, and community living (cooking, housekeeping, money management, employment, recreational activities, etc.).
• Use problem‑solving, de‑escalation techniques, stress management, and social skills.
• Prepare and present materials for groups and individual sessions.
• Complete progress notes and appropriate documentation.
• Meet with TLP team as needed to review cases.
• Attend meetings, trainings, seminars, and staff meetings; some may require overnight and out‑of‑town travel.
• Develop needs and service plans.
• Act as a role model; demonstrate personal and professional empowerment principles.
• Safely de‑escalate in crisis situations using verbal intervention skills.
• Document daily information concisely and accurately to meet billing requirements.
• Adhere to Oregon Administrative Rules and Standards of Care.
• Follow ethical codes, mission, values, and professional standards, including confidentiality.
• Utilize agency policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Maintain a positive attitude, professional demeanor, and respect with all stakeholders.
• Perform all tasks safely to prevent injury, time loss, and agency expense.
• Comply with all health and safety reporting requirements.
• Represent HWAM in public settings professionally; may include public speaking.
• Attend trainings and meetings as assigned; may serve on committees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
