This temporary position will end October 31, 2026.
Summary of Duties- Stay with and supervise children throughout the day or night in temporary lodging and transport them to different destinations as needed.
- Focus on in-home safety planning and prevention, when not in temporary lodging, by providing detailed documentation, support, engagement, and promptly reporting any concerns.
- Review and implement supervisory and safety plans, while also supporting their behavior and emotional needs.
- Maintain care for children related to hygiene, basic needs, school attendance, appointments, and transportation.
- Treat people with compassion and dignity, ensuring that children and family members feel respected and valued.
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.
- One year of experience working in a human services or behavioral health setting; OR An associate degree in any field; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience working with children and youth in a human services capacity.
- Builds rapport with children and families through warm, respectful, and strength‑based interactions.
- Experience communicating clearly and respectfully with children, families, caregivers, and professionals across varied cultural and community contexts.
- Work will take place in offices, participants’ homes, and various community locations.
- Frequent travel is required for transporting children or families and completing case‑related activities.
- This is a part‑time position; the work schedule will be:
Monday – Friday 5 PM – 8 AM, OR 20 hours over the weekend (Saturday – Sunday), Weekend hours may be flexible and will be determined before hire. - You may interact with individuals experiencing trauma or emotional distress, and there may be times when individuals have difficulty managing their emotional responses.
- You may encounter situations requiring quick decision‑making to ensure your safety or the safety of others.
- Activities may include traversing stairs, moving across uneven terrain, and assisting children (up to 50 pounds) in and out of car seats.
- If selected as a finalist, we will conduct a criminal history and background check. Adverse criminal history or background check may lead to disqualification.
- The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship.
- Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I‑9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States.
- ODHS will use E‑Verify to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States.
- Finalists must be cleared by the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) through a fingerprint‑based criminal records check.
