We're seeking a Nursing Assistant to join our team of compassionate caregivers. Cibola General Hospital provides services in general surgery, 24-hour Emergency care, Intensive Care, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Pathology, Pediatric Dentistry, Podiatry, Primary Care and Radiology with X-ray, CT, MRI. We have three operating rooms including a room for scopes. Clinics, Lab services, Pharmacy, Cardiopulmonary, and Rehab, and skilled care beds are provided.
Position SummaryThe nursing assistant is responsible for administering direct patient care and performing any other duties deemed necessary to insure optimal patient care, under the direction of a Professional Nurse.
Summary of Major FunctionUnder the supervision and/or direction of the Nursing Supervisor, Staff Nurse or Director of Nursing, performs various duties assisting Staff Nurses in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with the established methods and procedures of the hospital.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assumes direct patient care responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor/Staff Nurse.
- Administers daily care in an effective, timely manner.
- AM/PM care, includes backrubs and shave.
- Assists with ambulation.
- Assists with elimination.
- Dress/undress patient.
- Change bed linen.
- Administers daily care in an effective, timely manner.
- Carries out special orders or treatments as directed by the Team Leader.
- Special skin care.
- Collects specimens.
- Intake and output.
- Vital signs.
- Compresses (warm and cold).
- Preoperative and postoperative care.
- Enemas, vaginal irrigations.
- Surgical preps.
- Any additional duties as directed by supervisor.
- Provides patients and family members encouragement and support.
- Functions as a cooperative, active member of the health care team.
- Observes patient’s conditions and reports immediately, any untoward signs, symptoms or unusual occurrences.
- Maintains current documentation of patient’s status on Treatment Sheet and gives report to Nursing Supervisor or assigned Staff nurse and relieving Nurse Assistant.
- Assists in Admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
- Answers patient call light quickly.
- Assists in transporting patients to surgery.
- Accepts and completes special assignments in a timely manner.
- Emptying trash.
- Passing fresh linen.
- Cleaning patient and employee food refrigerators.
- Passing fresh water to patients.
- Cleaning Nursing break room.
- Cleans equipment after use and inspects for damage.
- Assists other staff voluntarily in completion of duties.
- Completes assignments as directed by the Nursing Supervisor.
- Acts as preceptor for new nursing assistants, reporting progress to Nursing Supervisor.
- Attends at least 75% of unit staff meetings, if a full time employee.
- Performs all procedures and conducts self in accordance with the hospital and safety policies and procedures.
- Participates in CPR program and completes necessary requirements.
- Maintains constant vigilance over patients (q 1 hour), taking necessary safety precautions (rails up, call lights within reach, bed in low position).
- Maintains patients’ room in neat, orderly manner with clear walking area.
- Assists patients to car at time of discharge.
- Demonstrates the professionalism necessary to function in the health care environment.
- Dresses and conducts self in a professional manner at all times.
- Recognizes and utilizes appropriately the chain of command to solve problems.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient, hospital or physician related information.
- Respects patient privacy, main provisions for such at all times.
- Reports to work promptly at least 95% of the time. Less than 12 tardies per year, greater than 5 minutes.
