Registered Nurse I - Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) Schedule Job Description
The Registered Nurse I (RN I) is a compassionate, licensed professional who delivers safe, high-quality, patient- and family-centered care through the full nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves coordinating individualized patient education, guiding and supervising ancillary team members, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and consistently upholding professional nursing standards in alignment with the New Mexico Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies.
Responsibilities- Conduct thorough patient assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
- Deliver direct patient care across the lifespan while promoting optimal health outcomes.
- Provide clear, culturally sensitive education to patients and families, supporting health literacy and successful transitions of care.
- Direct and supervise licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and other ancillary personnel.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, therapists, and the broader care team.
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and ongoing professional development.
- Float to other departments as needed, with appropriate orientation and training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support hospital operations and patient needs.
- Current New Mexico RN license or active Multi-State Compact (eNLC) license.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association (or equivalent).
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required;
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. - Education and clinical experience that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for the assigned department.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to deliver compassionate, culturally competent care to patients of all ages (pediatric through geriatric).
- Strong team player with flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning.
- Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring required.
- OPS Emergency Workshop and STABLE certification required within 12 months.
- Skilled in all aspects of perinatal care, labor support, delivery, and newborn assessment.
- Knowledge of sterile technique and sterile field maintenance.
