Material Handler / Forklift Operator

This role works under minimal supervision and serves as a lead in the absence of supervision, ensuring accurate inventory control within SAP at all times. The position supports multiple material handling functions, including return to stock, stockroom operations, cycle counting, work-in-process (WIP) support, shipping, receiving inspection, and receiving. The material handler reconciles inventory variances, reports line record accuracy to leadership, and occasionally acts as a liaison between Production Control, Production Management, and the production line on inventory and shortage issues.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the lead material handler in the absence of supervision while working under minimal oversight.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy in SAP at all times by following established department procedures.
  • Perform at least three of the following functions:
    Return to Stock (RTS), stockroom operations, cycle counts, WIP support, shipping, receiving inspection, or receiving.
  • Reconcile inventory variances and perform system adjustments in SAP or the ERP system as required.
  • Report line record accuracy and inventory status to leadership and management.
  • Serve as a liaison between Production Control, Production Management, and the production line to resolve inventory and shortage issues.
  • Stockroom / RTS responsibilities:
  • Put material away in stockrooms using RF scanners in SAP and verify that all associated transactions are correctly recorded.
  • Pull kits and split them as required using the system-based kit pull procedures.
  • Scan kits to the shared drive and pull shortages to ensure kits are complete before release.
  • Count all material returning from the production line to ensure system quantities are accurate.
  • Maintain box build areas in an organized condition and keep all kanban locations full of material.
  • Perform physical and system movement of material to other locations within Operations as needed.
  • Conduct cycle counting in any assigned area to support inventory accuracy.
  • Complete material disposition report forms accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Accurately back flush material in the ERP system according to established procedures.
  • Receiving responsibilities:
  • Follow receiving procedures as defined in ISO documentation.
  • Validate carton counts against the bill of lading for all deliveries and match packing lists to each lot of material, noting any exceptions.
  • Sign for all material delivered to the receiving dock after validation against the bill of lading.
  • Validate purchase orders, part numbers, quantities, and suppliers, and complete receipts to dock for production materials using the system.
  • Perform de-trash activities on incoming shipments to reduce waste in the stockroom and on the production line.
  • Receiving inspection responsibilities:
  • Follow receiving inspection procedures as defined in ISO documentation.
  • Read and follow inspection plans and special instructions for the inspection of incoming material.
  • Verify packing slips, receipts, and inventory quantities before passing materials through inspection.
  • Perform SAP transactions to move material to the production floor or other locations as required.
  • Perform inventory adjustments, including direct withdrawals, to maintain accurate records.
  • Obtain and maintain Quality Control Inspection certification based on IPC Standard-A-610, including annual recertification.
  • Shipping responsibilities:
  • Follow documented procedures for shipping as outlined in ISO documentation.
  • Understand and apply shipping procedures and documentation requirements for both domestic and international shipments.
  • Schedule or manage transportation carriers using approved carriers and corporate guidelines.
  • Accurately and safely perform physical material movements, system transactions, and verification steps related to shipping.
  • Support work cells during month-end activities until all shipments are completed, which may include working additional hours.
  • Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks, as needed to move, load, and unload materials.
  • Perform heavy lifting, loading and unloading trucks, palletizing, labeling, stocking, and order pulling as part of daily warehouse operations.
  • Use hand tools and power tools as needed for packaging, material preparation, and related mechanical tasks.
  • Use RF scan guns and other scanning devices to pick, pack, and track orders and inventory.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in alignment with site safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support operations.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience operating forklifts, including stand-up forklifts, reach trucks, and sit-down forklifts, in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated material handling experience, including loading and unloading trucks, palletizing, stocking, picking, packing, and order pulling.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and repetitive physical tasks in a warehouse or production setting.
