Position OverviewZena Land Development is seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations across multiple companies and development projects. This role will be responsible for full-cycle accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing, general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end financial reporting.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a multi-entity environment and possess strong job cost accounting knowledge. Construction, development, or related industry experience is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Operations- Manage daily accounting activities for multiple related entities
- Process Accounts Payable, including vendor management and year-end 1099 reporting
- Handle Accounts Receivable and customer billing functions
- Maintain and track project/job cost accounting activities
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and prepaid expense amortizations
- Perform general ledger reconciliations and account analysis
- Assist with month-end close and preparation of monthly financial statements with supporting schedules
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of accounting records and financial data
- Assist with construction loan draw requests and supporting documentation
- Support project-related funding requests and cost tracking
- Work closely with the Controller on reporting, operational support, and process improvements
- Support accounting department operations as needed
- Assist with special projects and additional duties assigned by management
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in a multi-entity environment
- Strong experience with job cost accounting
- Proficiency with computerized accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience in construction, land development, homebuilding, excavation, paving, or related industries
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Trimble Spectrum or Sage 300
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Windows-based applications
- Basic Microsoft Word skills
- Strong data entry and reconciliation capabilities
