SML GIVES INC is a community-driven nonprofit focused on uniting neighbors, businesses, and organizations to address hunger so that no one is left behind. Serving Franklin, Bedford, and Pittsylvania Counties, the organization combines food assistance with dignity, opportunity, and connection. Its work spans mobile food distribution to reach homebound and rural neighbors, partnerships that support local pantries and soup kitchens, and the development of an Empowerment Center to provide long-term, stabilizing resources.

Every initiative is built on collaboration and compassion, aiming to strengthen the hunger relief network and empower neighbors to overcome barriers. Team members contribute to meaningful, community-centered work that turns hunger relief into broader community renewal.

Employment Type: Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Approximately 21–30 hours per week, including occasional evenings, weekends, and special events

Pay Range: $14.00–$18.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

Location: Glade Hill, Virginia

Position Summary

SML GIVES INC is seeking an organized, dependable, and community-minded professional to provide administrative, executive, marketing, and office support for our growing nonprofit organization. This position plays a key role in supporting daily operations, communications, fundraising efforts, board activities, community events, and volunteer engagement while helping ensure the Executive Director can focus on organizational leadership and strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Executive & Administrative Support

  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Director & CEO.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, meeting materials, and spreadsheets.
  • Maintain organized files, records, calendars, and organizational documents.
  • Coordinate meetings and assist with scheduling and follow-up.

Office Operations

  • Answer phones, monitor email, and respond to general inquiries.
  • Manage office supplies, filing systems, mail, and shared resources.
  • Maintain accurate records, contact lists, and organizational databases.

Board & Governance Support

  • Assist with Board and committee meetings, agendas, minutes, and meeting materials.
  • Maintain governance records, policies, and committee documentation.

Marketing & Communications

  • Create flyers, graphics, presentations, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Assist with website updates, email communications, and promotional materials.
  • Maintain consistent branding across all communications.

Development & Community Engagement

  • Support fundraising campaigns, donor relations, sponsor ships, grants, and volunteer activities.
  • Assist with planning and staffing fundraising events, food distributions, and community programs.
  • Help maintain donor, volunteer, and partner information within Salesforce or other CRM systems.
  • Maintain accurate organizational records and databases.
  • Organize receipts, invoices, contracts, grants, and event documentation.
  • Assist with budget and expense tracking as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for events.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of SML GIVES INC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in administrative support, executive assistance, nonprofit operations, marketing, fundraising, or event coordination.
  • Experience with Salesforce or another CRM.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, social media platforms, and email marketing tools.
  • Experience supporting boards, committees, or volunteers.
  • Knowledge of the Smith Mountain Lake region.

Physical Requirements

This position requires regular computer work, communication by phone and email, occasional lifting of office or event materials, and local travel to meetings and community events.

Compensation

Starting pay ranges from $14.00–$18.00 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated skills.
