About the JobBILT is seeking a CAD Designer 1 for the CAD Operations team within the 3D Instruction Engineering Department. This individual will be a Solid Works professional who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to produce and prepare 3D CAD assets that support BILT 3D Intelligent Instructions.
You will partner closely with 3D Animators, Instructional Designers, Quality Assurance, and Engineering leadership to evaluate customer CAD, generate missing geometry, and prepare models so complex assembly, installation, and service procedures can be animated accurately.
This is a hands-on production role for someone who can read technical documentation, understand design-for-manufacturing intent, and translate 2D drawings, source manuals, and physical products into clean, animation-ready 3D CAD.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate the completeness of customer-provided CAD against source documentation, including assembly instructions and technical manuals
- Modify CAD assets to facilitate the animation process, including separating joined components and organizing models for downstream 3D production
- Generate 3D CAD assets from customer-provided 2D CAD drawings and other reference materials
- Generate simple 3D CAD assets from customer-provided physical products through reverse engineering and perform simple mesh modeling tasks
- Evaluate the assembly process and highlight potential complications an end user might experience during assembly, installation, or service
- Manage multiple complex CAD projects from start to finish while meeting tight production deadlines
- Follow established BILT CAD best practices, file naming, configuration standards, and version-control practices
- Review work against BILT quality standards and incorporate feedback from Engineering, Animation, and QA reviews
- Prepare and export CAD in the configurations and file types required for import into the BILT 3D production pipeline
- Travel to onsite visits with approximately two weeks' notice when product measurement, inspection, or reverse engineering is required
- Communicate clearly with internal partners and, when needed, customer contacts regarding CAD completeness, issues, and delivery status
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- 1-4 years of professional experience in a design-for-manufacturing environment
- Professional proficiency in Solid Works, including solid modeling; surfacing is a plus (FEA is not required)
- Must understand the difference between parametric modeling and mesh modeling
- Must have experience using 3D file types that are not native to Solid Works and understand import configurations (part/solid/surface, part/body, assembly/part)
- Experience working with multiple materials and their manufacturing methods (for example, wood, plastic, and metal)
- Strong technical capacity, including the ability to read and understand manuals and technical documentation
- Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office; knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud is a plus
- Ability to learn BILT best practices quickly and work independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Industrial Design from an accredited college or…
