Description Summary
An Automation System Engineer is focused on the design, development, implementation, and optimization of complex automation systems. This role typically involves working across multiple disciplines to ensure systems work seamlessly and efficiently to meet organizational goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other Duties not listed may be assigned.
System Design And Development- Design and develop comprehensive automation systems that improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and architecture.
- Select appropriate technologies and platforms to build scalable and reliable systems.
- Integrate automation solutions into existing systems and processes.
- Ensure interoperability between different equipment and software solutions.
- Coordinate with IT and production teams to align technology with business needs.
- Develop and optimize code and algorithms for automation systems.
- Configure and program control systems such as PLCs, SCADA, and DCS.
- Develop user interfaces and dashboards for monitoring and control.
- Conduct comprehensive testing and validation of automation systems.
- Develop test plans and execute them to ensure systems meet performance criteria.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with hardware and software components.
- Prepare detailed documentation for system designs, configurations, and changes.
- Ensure systems comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance for deployed systems.
- Train end-users and technical staff on system operation and troubleshooting.
- Implement updates and enhancements as needed.
- Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
- Develop project plans, timelines, and goals.
- Communicate progress to stakeholders and address any project-related issues.
- Analyze system performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends to enhance systems.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, industrial, or related field)
Relevant experience in designing and implementing automation systems.
Familiarity with industrial control system and protocols.
Essential Skills- Proficient in programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, ladder logic) and automation platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent technical documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Understanding of network architectures and cybersecurity practices related to automation systems.
- Willingness to travel and adapt to various working environments if necessary.
- Experience in particular industries such as aerospace, automotive, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing.
- Knowledge of advanced technologies like IoT, machine learning, or robotics.
This role can vary significantly based on the specific industry and organizational focus, so the exact duties and qualifications might differ accordingly.
Working ConditionsMust be able to tolerate moderate to high noise levels in a warehouse environment. Office and outside environmental conditions found in the warehouse, hot in the summer, cold in the winter. Individuals may need to walk for an extensive period of time while working and walking the facilities; to reach over shoulder heights; bend or stoop below the waist; repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement.
Requires the physical ability to lift 25 pounds.
