The Chief EstimatorResponsible for creating budgets and estimates, overseeing the estimating process for all projects bid and awarded, and establishing standardized procedures, methods, and processes for estimating and training estimating resources.
Job Responsibilities- Review project plans and specifications and coordinate with the team to confirm complete scope.
- Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude.
- Solicit subcontractor and/or supplier information & pricing.
- Assist in “Good Faith Efforts” as required.
- Prepare instructions to bidders, bid forms and other bid solicitation information as required.
- Perform and/or manage the quantity survey and pricing effort for internal budgets.
- Prepare conceptual budgets based on minimal information.
- Review general conditions, schedule, scopes of work and site logistics and other exhibits prepared by Operations.
- Ensure the flow of project information is maintained and documented.
- Review and/or manage the review and scoping of specialty contractor bids.
- Review constructability issues with operational staff.
- Maintain and communicate data on construction and material cost trends affecting project costs.
- Analyze alternate means and methods to determine the most economical alternative.
- Build effective relationships with customers, design team, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meet or exceed the customer’s expectations.
- Actively participate in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
- Participate in the transfer of information on successful projects, including the Job Kick‑off Meeting.
- Assist in the preparation and review of work plans as requested.
- Participate in periodic reviews and visits to projects as appropriate.
- Price change impacts as required.
- Be proficient in all computer software programs used in estimating.
- Possess strong mathematical and computer skills, proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Break down construction operations into a logical sequence of activities.
- Work effectively in a team environment.
- Communicate the basis for individual work product professionally in a fast‑paced environment.
- Meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done.
- Have effective oral and written communication skills.
- Be willing to travel.
- Possess a strong work ethic.
- Have strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Have good attention to detail and the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required;
Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Administration preferred. - 10+ years of estimating experience required.
- Required to stand, walk, and sit.
- Talk or hear, both in person and by telephone.
- Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects or controls.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds.
