Job Description
Designer II is a mid-level designer responsible for creating marked drawings, model development, and other documents showing equipment and device layouts and branch circuiting for power, lighting, and auxiliary drawings. The position also provides calculations and documentation for lighting and power systems, details as required to clarify design intent on drawings. The role requires moderate supervision by a Designer III, an Engineer, the Engineer of Record, the Engineering Team Lead, or the Director of Engineering.
WhatYou'll Do
- Assemble a complete symbols list and common project notes from the REI Standard relevant to the project.
- Mark up branch circuit lighting and power plans and fill in panel board schedules.
- Perform Energy Code calculations, documentation, and comply with local jurisdiction energy requirements with little supervision.
- Apply Rosendin standards for wire sizing, transformer feeders, and protection from published schedules.
- Calculate power loads, size feeders, and determine the estimated demand load summary for a distribution system under the direction of a Sr. Designer or an Engineer.
- Direct and coordinate signal and low voltage subcontractors with other trades.
- Create details to define installation for construction.
- Provide the design lead function for small jobs.
- Review manufacturer submittals for electrical characteristics.

- Some college or technical training in engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Designer.
- Combination of education, training, and relevant experience acceptable.
- Up to 15% (does not include local field visits).
- General work environment includes sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work conducted indoors with varying environmental conditions.
- Noise level usually low to medium; may be loud on the jobsite.
- Compliant with ADA and state law, considering reasonable accommodations.
