Position: GVRR Train Attendant - CAS/PT (19 hours or less/week)

Performs a variety of activities as a part-time attendant on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad's (GVRR) Excursion Train and depots. Creates unforgettable experiences for guests both onboard the Train and at the depot. This role combines customer service, hospitality, and local knowledge to ensure every rider feels welcomed, informed, and safe throughout their journey.

  • 1. Provides exceptional customer service before, during, and after each train ride, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience for all passengers.
  • 2. Shares historical information about the Cotton Belt Railroad, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, the locomotives, and vintage coaches.
  • 3. Offers guests helpful information about Grapevine’s history, events, shopping, restaurants, and attractions.
  • 4. Prioritizes guest safety and comfort at all times while onboard.
  • 5. Assists with preparing passenger cars before departures, including stocking concessions and merchandise, and reporting any visible maintenance issues.
  • 6. Helps with boarding and deboarding procedures, monitors safety during train operation, and maintains an orderly environment onboard.
  • 7. Sells tickets, concessions, and merchandise at the Grapevine Depot or Stockyards ticket office; assists with inventory management and cash reconciliation.
  • 8. Cleans and maintains passenger areas - including restrooms and concessions - between runs and at the end of shifts. Assists in securing the train after operation.
  • 9. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
  • 10. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
  • 11. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.

When Assigned to the North Pole Neighborhood (Seasonal Role):

  • 1. Delivers a warm, customer-focused experience to guests attending seasonal holiday train events.
  • 2. Shares information about Grapevine’s holiday attractions, events, shopping and dining options.
  • 3. Helps prepare train excursions, including stocking merchandise and concessions.
  • 4. Assists in ticket, merchandise, and concession sales as needed.
  • 5. Assists with on board show as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
  • Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Friendly, approachable, and able to engage positively with guests of all ages.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends, evenings, holidays, and during special events.
  • Ability to count money accurately and operate point-of-sale systems (iPad, Square, credit card machines).
  • Physical ability to lift up to 20 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Reliable transportation required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum age 17.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a food handler’s certification within 30 days of hire date or promotion and must maintain it while employed. Employees over the age of 18 are required to have a current TABC certification and maintain it while employed.
  • Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and credit check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment screening (Level
    1), Ishihara vision screening, whisper test and audio screening.

Safety equipment such as gloves, goggles, hard hats, safety vests, steel-toe boots, back support belts, and seat belts are provided and must be worn as required by department procedures and good safety practices.
