Education Requirements

Minimum of an associate degree or 2 years of work experience (2 years of experience preferred but not required). Graduate of an accredited RCIS related Technical or Associate's degree program preferred.

Experience Requirements

2 years Cath, EP, or Vascular experience preferred but not required.

Licensure / Credential

Must hold a Radiography or imaging credential: ARRT-R, American Registry of Radiologic Tech, and MRT through TX Medical Board; RCIS (Reg Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) preferred.

Cases

Coronary – Cardiac catheterization, PCI, Impella/IABP;
Vascular – Peripheral angiogram and intervention, thrombectomy; EP – Ablation (afib, flutter, SVT, VOM); device placement (pacemaker, defibrillator, CCM, loop recorder).

On-Call

STEMI call required, approximately 7–8 days of call per month including one weekend. On‑call response time to the facility is within 30 minutes of notification.

Schedule

Full‑time 4 days a week – 10‑hour day shifts, Monday–Friday 6:00 am–4:30 pm. Holidays and night call coverage for emergent procedures. 10‑hour shifts. On‑call 7 to 8 days a month including weekends and holidays.

Job Summary

The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, under general supervision, helps physicians during catheterization and electrophysiology lab procedures. Prepares room and equipment, instructs patients, monitors patient condition, and provides routine and emergency care during procedures. Contributes to orientation and training of other team members. Helps with daily, monthly, and quarterly quality control initiatives through auditing and reporting.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Help physicians with arteriograms/catheterizations, permanent pacemaker implantations, implantable cardiac defibrillators, diagnostic and interventional, peripheral, and coronary, interventional and thrombolytic therapy.
  • Follow national and state radiation protection regulations for patients, self, and staff. Provide emergency procedures like CPR and defibrillation as needed.
  • Perform pre‑ and post‑procedure care and monitoring.
  • Orient patients for catheterization or electrophysiology procedures.
  • Answer related questions to make patient relaxed.
  • Monitor patient's ECG, pressures, temperature, and impedances while in Electrophysiology Lab; notify physician of variances.
  • Help in running RF/Cryo ablation systems, 3D mapping, and record other procedural documentation.
  • Manage and maintain images that may include stenosis testing, formatting, and processing on both cardiac and peripheral cases.
  • Help in procedure rooms and collect registry and quality data on appropriate forms.
  • Gather catheterization data and prepare procedure reports.
  • Prepare and maintain sterile fields for lab procedures.
  • Order and maintain inventory of procedure room supplies.
  • Ensure rooms are adequately stocked and equipment has not expired.
  • Coordinate and/or audit resources during yearly inventories.
  • Perform routine calibration and maintenance of complex equipment; notify appropriate team members for fixes.
  • Help in orientation and training of new staff and students or extra duties as established by supervisor/manager.
  • Oversee some level of quality control monitoring, such as NPSG auditing, turnaround times, performance improvement initiatives. (Daily, monthly and/or quarterly).
  • Participate in mutual governance, department, hospital, or professional organizations and committees. This includes LEAN initiatives, NOBLE, 5S projects, inter‑departmental committees, professional organization participation, and QC assurance with managers.
