The Infection Preventionist 2 implements and reviews the facility’s infection prevention program. This ensures standards and guidelines from professional organizations and agencies are included. The role also serves as a subject matter expert on infection prevention issues for all facility team members.
Essential Functions of the Role- Designs, implements, and evaluates infection prevention strategies to control infectious agents. Applies epidemiologic values and evidence-based guidelines.
- Conducts ongoing surveillance using CDC infection criteria. Evaluates the surveillance plan’s effectiveness and modifies it as necessary.
- Reports patients with communicable diseases to the appropriate health authority.
- Develops and updates isolation techniques and procedures by current standards of practice, rules, and regulations.
- Evaluates the infection prevention program. Maintains compliance with national standards and regulating bodies like Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, FDA, and HHS. Uses observations, audit tools, and other methods.
- Plans, organizes, develops, and implements educational programs to increase employee awareness of the existence of healthcare-associated infections.
- Participates in quality/performance improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring healthcare-associated infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis.
- Partners with teams and team members to create, educate, and sustain evidence-based infection prevention strategies, as well as give feedback.
- Participates in educational activities, professional meetings, and peer networking. Reviews literature to stay updated on healthcare and infection control research.
- Performs other position-appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner.
- Knowledge of accreditation and regulatory compliance issues for infection control
- Subject matter expertise in infection prevention and control values and practices
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Skill in the use of computers and related software applications
- Partnership, leadership, and conflict resolution
- Ability to implement evidence-based guidelines
- Data collection and testing, report writing, and data presentation
- EDUCATION – Associate’s
- EXPERIENCE – 2 Years of Experience
- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION – Cert in Infection Control (CIC-CBIC)
