Job SummaryThe Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist works under general supervision to assist physicians during catheterization and electrophysiology lab procedures. Duties include preparing equipment, instructing patients, monitoring patient conditions, providing routine and emergency care, and contributing to quality control initiatives.
Essential Functions of the Role- Assists physicians with arteriograms, catheterizations, pacemaker implantations, defibrillators, and interventional procedures.
- Follows radiation protection regulations for patients, staff, and self.
- Performs pre‑ and post‑procedure care and monitoring.
- Orients patients for procedures and answers questions to reduce anxiety.
- Monitors ECG, pressures, temperature, and impedance in the EP lab and notifies the physician of variances.
- Runs RF/Cryo ablation systems, 3D mapping, and records procedural documentation.
- Manages imaging for cardiac and peripheral cases, including stenosis testing and processing.
- Collects registry and quality data and prepares procedure reports.
- Maintains sterile fields, inventories supplies, and ensures equipment is stocked and compliant.
- Performs routine calibration, maintenance, and coordinates repairs.
- Participates in training of new staff and in quality‑control monitoring initiatives.
- Engages in department and hospital governance, including LEAN initiatives and professional committees.
- Transports patients to and from procedural areas and demonstrates customer‑service skills.
STEMI call required; approximately 7–8 on‑call days per month including weekends and holidays. Response time within 30 minutes. Full‑time schedule: 4 days a week, 10‑hour shifts (Monday‑Friday, 6:00 am–4:30 pm) with night call coverage for emergent procedures.
Key Success Factors- Education or experience requirements: associate’s degree or equivalent military training; or 2 years of related cardiovascular lab experience.
- Availability for on‑call response per facility policy.
- Knowledge of complex invasive cardiac and vascular instrumentation and techniques.
- Understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
- Minimum associate’s degree in a related field or two years of work experience (preferred).
- Graduate of an accredited RCIS‑related technical or associate’s degree program (preferred).
- Radiography or imaging credential: ARRT‑R (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – Radiography) and MRT through TX Medical Board or RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist).
- ACLS within 30 days of hire/transfer.
- BLS within 30 days of hire/transfer.
- Any one of: ARRT‑R, MRT, RCIS, RCES, CEPS, or CCDS (certified cardiac device specialist).
