Medical/Surgical OrthopedicsThe unit is a fast‑paced environment that includes high acuity patients. The leadership team fosters an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and development of every team member.
Patient Population: Surgical (orthopedic, neurosurgery, colorectal, gynecological, urology, plastics, bariatrics, general surgery, trauma), medical‑cellulitis, SBO, AMS, GI, hospice, diabetes.
Patient Ratios: 1:5
Number of Beds: 40 beds
Department Specifics: Diverse workforce, team oriented, collaboration across disciplines, self‑scheduling, Magnet designated with active unit shared governance structure.
Shift: Full Time Days; 7am-7pm
Experience: 2 years of Med/Surg/Tele experience
Job SummaryAs a Registered Nurse, oversee patient care using a professional practice model. Responsibilities include patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and assessing patient responses. Secure patient travel. Know about patient needs in healthcare. Help patients and prevent issues. Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
Essential Functions of the Role- Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
- Create, implement, and evaluate care plans, adjusting as needed.
- Build relationships, manage discomfort, maintain professionalism in therapeutic connections.
- Help educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, assessing learning needs.
- Collaborate with colleagues and community to develop care plans, delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
- Use problem‑solving strategies with patients, families, and staff, prioritizing safety and effectiveness.
- Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, contribute to peers’ development and community service.
- Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards.
- Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and hospital procedures.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and medication knowledge.
- Respect for medical and nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Positive social skills for interacting with diverse parties.
- Excellent problem‑solving and critical thinking.
- Basic computer skills:
Microsoft Office, electronic medical documentation, scheduling and payroll systems.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Registered Nurse license.
- Must have BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting.
- 2 years of Med/Surg/Tele experience.
