Responsibilities
- Must have a high degree of knowledge of advanced electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and building maintenance and repair methods.
- Must maintain knowledge of and follow HUD NSPIRE inspection protocol.
- Must be knowledgeable of federal, state, and local codes and regulations applicable to electrical, HVAC, plumbing, construction, and life safety.
- Must be able to coordinate several concurrent activities simultaneously.
- Must be proficient with a cell phone, tablet, computer and inventory control.
- Must have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.
- Must have excellent internal and external customer service.
- Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; use reason even when dealing with sensitive topics and/or irate customers.
- Must be able to make simple mathematical calculations and can read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
- Must have physical ability to perform assigned tasks and work at various heights above the ground and during adverse weather conditions.
- Must have the ability to complete tasks as assigned.
- Ability to work in a team environment, contribute as a team member and treat co-workers and customers with respect.
- Ability to work any day of the week (weekends and weekdays) and long hours.
- Experience with public housing authority or residential maintenance preferred.
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus five years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of residential buildings, HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems.
- An Associates of Applied Science degree or completion of a two-year training program from an accredited trade or technical school may be substituted for two years’ experience.
- Requires one of the following:
- A Type I, Type II, or Universal EPA Refrigerant Recovery certification
- A maintenance electrician license
- A journeyman electrician license
- Or any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
- Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
- Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, functional assessment screening (Level
2), and must not exceed weight limit of 350 lbs.

Safety equipment such as gloves, goggles, hard hats, safety vests, steel-toe boots, back support belts, and seat belts are provided and must be worn as required by department procedures and good safety practices.
