Job Title: Maintenance Engineer III
-HVAC Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Maintenance Lead Pay Grade: Aux Grade 7 / 261 Calendar

Dept./School: Facility Services Department Salary commensurate with experience

Primary Purpose:

Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install new HVAC equipment throughout the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all district HVAC equipment.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • EPA refrigerant recovery certification
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written material
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Such alternatives to the above as the district may find appropriate
Experience
  • Minimum three years' experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Receive and make repairs from work orders.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of HVAC systems.
  • Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.
  • Maintain an inventory of district owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • Perform planned maintenance on HVAC.
  • Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping.
  • Report to Maintenance Lead items that are in need of repair.
  • Maintain a spirit of cooperation and helpfulness with all school personnel and with the general public.
  • Maintain the equipment issued to him/her, keeping it clean and in good repair.
  • Assist Energy Manager to complete energy conservation issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

    • Hand and power tools, pipe benders
    • Trucks, trailers,
    • Refrigerant recovery machine
    Working Conditions:

    Physical Demands:
    • Standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling for long periods of time
    • Frequent lifting of 50+
    • Prolonged or irregular hours may be required
    Environmental Factors:
    • Exposure to extreme hot and/or cold weather
