Join our Public Works Road Maintenance Team! If you have a California class B license with a tanker endorsement, your skills in heavy equipment and road maintenance are needed on our County roads. This is the first working level in the Road Maintenance Worker series that offers the opportunity to utilize your general knowledge and skills to identify and tackle issues.
Proofof Valid Class B Operator’s License
Proof of valid Class B operator’s license issued by a state department of motor vehicles is required at time of application. Please attach proof of your valid license to your application.
While knowledge of safe working practices are key, proficiency operating most heavy equipment is a must. Knowledge of these areas is necessary:
- Provisions of the California Vehicle Code relating to the operation of medium and heavy equipment on streets and roads
- Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in the repair and maintenance of roads
- Work zone safety and traffic control
These strong skills are also highly desirable in an applicant:
- Learning to maintain and make minor repairs on roads
- Operating chippers, chainsaws, and other hand tools for roadside vegetation management
- Understanding and carry out oral and written instructions
- Working well as part of a team

To view the job description including minimum qualifications, please . Completion of 12th grade or equivalent, and two years of experience in public works or construction and maintenance involving the operation of medium and heavy road maintenance equipment such as graders, loaders, backhoes, rollers, mowers and 3-axle trucks AND possession of a valid Class B operator's license issued by a state department of motor vehicles with tanker endorsement.
If no tanker endorsement, must attain tanker endorsement within first six months of employment.
