Fiddlehead School of Arts and Sciences is one of Maine’s first approved public charter schools located in Gray, Maine, serving students from Pre‑K through 8th grade. The school follows a learner‑centered, inquiry‑based, design‑thinking, place‑based approach to middle school education.
Description & Responsibilities- Primary responsibility for teaching mathematics in 6th–8th grades using the Connected Math curriculum, differentiating instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
- Lead a homeroom class, creating a safe, respectful, culturally sensitive learning community and explicitly teaching social and emotional skills such as problem solving, self‑regulation, and mindfulness.
- Collaborate with middle‑school lead teachers and the Program Coordinator to design integrated units of study and project‑based learning experiences, incorporating the Eureka Math curriculum as needed.
- Build constructive relationships with families, communicating regularly about student progress, curriculum, projects, and classroom events.
- Model professional behavior in accordance with school policies and expectations for a collaborative community.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Teaching certificate or currently working toward certification.
- At least 3 years of classroom teaching experience.
- Current authorization to work in the United States.
- Strong middle‑school mathematics teaching experience.
- Experience with project‑based/place‑based curriculum or interdisciplinary studies.
- Ability to differentiate instruction for learners with academic and behavioral needs.
- Familiarity with PBIS, Responsive Classroom, and/or restorative practices.
