Job Summary

We are seeking an instructor to teach one section of ENG 123:
Mass Communications in spring 2026, in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10‑11:15 a.m. at our Grayslake Campus. The course explores the history, functions, ethical, legal and business challenges of mass communication and future trends. Units include media literacy, media law, history of print media, evolution of television, radio and film, and social media.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in the subject field.
  • Develop instructional materials.
  • Assess student learning and assign grades.
  • Attend required Adjunct meetings in the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Participate in college governance and other aspects of academic life.
  • Maintain current knowledge of subject matter.
  • Maintain compliance training under Title IX “Responsible Employee” and, if applicable, Clery Act Campus Security Authority.
  • Select, prepare and maintain current curriculum, course outlines and printed & non‑printed instructional materials.
  • Provide instructional support to students.
  • Provide the Division and the students a syllabus that includes course objectives, learning outcomes, attendance policies, texts and readings, timelines and evaluation criteria.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, discussions or examinations and provide timely feedback.
  • Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles.
  • Maintain office, discipline, grades and division records as required by the College.
  • Be available for student consultation via phone or email.
  • Use College policies and procedures to resolve and document student complaints.
  • Assist in developing and administering discipline‑appropriate measures of student academic achievement and use departmental testing instruments.
  • Conduct all classes in accordance with an established and current course syllabus and approved textbooks.
  • Meet all classes for the scheduled time.
  • Submit all grades electronically prior to required deadlines.
  • Provide Registrar appropriate grade records.
  • Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review them when available and use feedback to improve course delivery.
  • Revise and update course content as needed.
  • Participate, when appropriate, in program advisory boards, college, division and department committees.
  • Maintain a high level of professional ethics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or Associate Dean.
  • Classes may be scheduled at any of the campuses:
    Grayslake, Waukegan, Vernon Hills, or online.
Qualifications
  • Required: Master’s degree in journalism, communications, radio, television, film, or mass communication, or a master’s degree in English with advanced courses or work experience in any of the above areas.
  • Desired: College teaching experience; bilingual in Spanish and English.

Per Load Hour Compensation Schedule

  • 2025‑2026: $1,373
  • 2026‑2027: $1,414
