Job Summary

The College of Lake County is seeking a LGBTQ+ Student Outreach & Programs Coordinator to join the Student Activities and Inclusion Department. Under the direction of the Director of Student Activities and Inclusion, this role facilitates co-curricular programs, multicultural competence, student leadership opportunities, and an inclusive campus climate for the LGBTQ+ community. The coordinator develops and facilitates events, workshops and seminars that complement classroom instruction and help students build leadership and life skills (e.g., diversity, budget management, conflict resolution).

The position also helps frame the diversity imperative in academic terms to engage faculty and staff and center IDEA conversations within institutional work and the co-curricular experience.

Responsibilities
  • Project and Process Management (70%)
    • Coordinate welcoming events/meet and greet sessions for new and continuing students
    • Assist with coordination and implementation of IDEA programs to encourage use of services
    • Co-host IDEA trainings and retreats that connect with academic courses (e.g., first-year experience courses with direct learning outcomes)
    • Lead facilitator for SAFE Zone Training
    • Oversee partnerships between Student Activities & Inclusion and classroom instruction to align co-curricular programming with course learning outcomes
    • Develop goals and methods to engage faculty in co-curricular partnerships
    • Participate in campus diversity and heritage month planning committees
    • Assist in implementing IDEA workshops/training for Student Activities & Inclusion and related campus initiatives
    • Research best practices to encourage program involvement and develop an IDEA workshop/training manual and resources
    • Promote LGBTQ+ programs through cross-functional campus teams
    • Research best practices for target populations to encourage program involvement
    • Support other Student Activities and Inclusion programs
    • Develop assessment techniques to measure program success; track participants and analyze results to inform improvements
  • Student and Customer Service (20%)
    • Serve as a key liaison to connect LGBTQ+ student populations
    • Participate in LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group and LGBTQ+ Students Advocates Committee on the Diversity Council
    • Serve as SAI liaison for the Pride Alliance student organization
    • Provide guidance and leadership to PRIDE members to develop leadership skills and execute tasks
    • Facilitate retreats and workshops to develop academic year programs and student meetings
    • Develop partnerships with other clubs/organizations or college departments to address student needs
  • Other: 10%
    • Participate in cross-departmental initiatives and campus events
    • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and institutional objectives
Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience working with and supporting the LGBTQ+ community
  • Minimum of two (2) years of program experience in an educational, nonprofit, or related field
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to work in a highly visible role with broad interaction among faculty, staff and students
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; ability to engage diverse student, faculty, and staff backgrounds
  • Desired: Excellent oral and written skills
  • Working knowledge of multicultural programming and leadership development
  • Experience collaborating with other departments
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $52,878. This role has a set salary and is not subject to negotiation.

Core

Hours:

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening hours may be required.
