Assistant Director of Assessment

Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Assessment plans, initiates and sustains the assessment of student learning process and leads the faculty and staff of academic programs and co-curricular units in efforts to improve student learning and program effectiveness. In coordination with the Faculty Assessment Coordinator and with the support from the Institutional Effectiveness, Planning and Research staff, the Assistant Director develops, administers and oversees processes for the assessment of student learning outcomes and manages the data collection and dissemination.

The Assistant Director supports departments in establishing measurable outcomes and utilizing course and program assessment data for reporting and to improve teaching and learning. The AD supports a culture of assessment across the College and engages faculty and staff in initiating and maintaining best practices in assessment of student learning. The Assistant Director of Assessment reports to the Assistant Vice President of Education.

Job Description

Assessment and Program Review 60%

  • Document ongoing College assessment efforts, and promote a college-wide culture of assessment through consultation, instruction, and professional development with faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to design, implement, and systematically assess student learning and effectiveness of all academic and co-curricular programs.
  • Facilitate integration of assessment practices for the continuous quality improvement of curricula, and support faculty efforts to develop and implement improvement strategies targeting student learning.
  • Coordinate annual data collection, dissemination, and reporting of department, division and college student learning outcomes assessments.
  • Work with faculty and staff to ensure departments regularly use assessment of student learning data analysis and findings as provided by the IEPR Senior Research Analyst;
    Make data informed recommendations to provide assurance of continuous improvement of curriculum, teaching, and student learning.
  • Coordinate with the Teaching Learning and Educational Technology Center (TLETC) to develop materials and resources, and educate faculty and staff on effective outcomes assessment design aligned with learning-centered strategies.
  • Act as Administrative Co-Chair for the Academic Department Review Committee supporting efforts for annual Academic Department Review including assisting in the development of assessment plans and action steps, transforming data into actionable reports and providing guidance, recommendations, and feedback to faculty and staff.

Strategic Leadership/Project Management 30%

  • With the Faculty Assessment Coordinator, provide leadership and coordination of assessment activity and support the evaluation and ongoing improvement of course, program and College-wide learning outcomes.
  • Act as Administrative Co-Chair guiding and leading the work of the Assessment of Student Learning Committee (ASLC) and its subcommittees.
  • Work with College Curriculum Committee to ensure course and program proposals include needed assessment updates.
  • Help maintain a database of program action and assessment plans and facilitate the dissemination and review of assessment findings.
  • Work with TLETC to coordinate annual work to demonstrate Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) for online courses.
