The College of Lake County (CLC) is seeking an Instructor, English for the instruction of first and second-year college-level courses to a diverse student body at our Grayslake, Lakeshore, and Southlake campuses, as well as local business, community, and industry partners.
CLC is a comprehensive community college committed to equitable high-quality education, cultural enrichment, and partnerships to advance the diverse communities it serves in northeastern Illinois. Our search process is designed to promote increasing the diversity of our full-time faculty. This position includes teaching within both the Technical Communication and English departments and supports students in developing strong writing and communication skills for academic, workplace, and digital environments.
Teaching responsibilities may include courses in the composition sequence and related courses based on departmental needs.
- Campus locations:
Grayslake, Lakeshore, and Southlake - Full-time, tenure-track faculty position
- Salary range: base for (master's degree) $70,987 to $84,767 (doctorate); hiring range $70,987 to $125,501 depending on education and experience
- New faculty orientation: required during the week of August 3-7, 2026
- Select, prepare, maintain, and update current curriculum, course outlines, and instructional materials
- Provide students and the academic division with a syllabus including objectives, learning outcomes, attendance policies, texts, timelines, and evaluation criteria
- Meet all classes at assigned times; report absences appropriately
- Teach assigned courses each academic semester to meet student, department, and community needs
- Deliver course content using varied teaching styles and campus locations
- Provide instructional support and assist student advisement; refer students to College services when appropriate
- Maintain accessibility via office hours, email, or phone; participate in department and college-wide assessment of student learning
- Administer department and college assessment instruments; provide results as requested
- Evaluate student performance; provide timely feedback; maintain accurate grade records
- Adhere to college policies to resolve student concerns and complaints
- Encourage course evaluations and use feedback to improve delivery
- Participate in career program advisory committees, governance groups, and college/department meetings
- Attend faculty and department meetings, Opening Week activities, and Commencement
- Maintain professional conduct and ongoing compliance training; use technology (Navigate, Canvas, Zoom) for instruction, grading, and communication
- Stay current in subject matter through professional development and publications
- Follow institutional and regulatory policies; engage in self-assessment and ongoing service to College and academic division
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or Associate Dean
- College: Knowledge of College policies and FERPA; ability to work with diverse cultures and backgrounds; establish effective relationships
- Department/Divisional: Knowledge of instructional policies; ability to interpret guidelines and work with diverse populations
- Decision-Making and Analytical: Ability to interpret policy and organize ideas logically
- Communication: Strong public speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills; ability to work with a diverse workforce and student population
- Physical: Ability to work in a classroom setting; stand/sit for long periods; lift light to moderate weight; use computer and office equipment
- Vision: Normal visual range with/without correction

- Required: Master's degree in Technical Communication, English, Rhetoric/Composition, Professional Writing, Communication, Journalism, Writing Studies, or closely related field
- Desired: Community college teaching experience; experience teaching both technical communication and composition; online/hybrid instruction with LMS; accessibility standards familiarity; professional experience in related fields
