Dean Of Students

The Dean of Student Services works under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Principal of Student Services to support and promote student success. This role focuses on utilizing leadership and administrative skills to oversee various student services, programs, and interventions. The Dean of Student Services will be responsible for ensuring a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment by managing behavioral incidents, assisting with crisis situations, and collaborating with staff and member schools.

The position will play a key role in monitoring and enhancing student well-being and success. 190-Day Contract.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, School Administration, or related field
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsements
  • Minimum of three years of experience in public education, including experience in student services or school leadership
  • Knowledge of career and technical education preferred
  • Experience in behavior management, student support systems, and special education regulations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive student information

Responsibilities:

  • Administration/Instruction:
    Assist the Assistant Principal of Student Services and other administrators in the development and implementation of student services programs. Support the evaluation and modification of instructional programs in coordination with the leadership team. Assist in the preparation and monitoring of student data for reporting purposes, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements. Represent the school in meetings with parents, community members, and other stakeholders as required.

    Contribute to the development of the Crisis Management Plan and assist in implementing emergency response protocols.
  • Student Services:
    Manage day-to-day student services, including behavior interventions, attendance monitoring, and crisis management, under the guidance of the Assistant Principal. Track, analyze, and manage data on behavioral incidents to ensure timely interventions and support systems. Observe and assess student behavior to recommend adjustments in instructional programs, discipline strategies, or support services. Support students at risk of academic failure or behavioral challenges by developing intervention strategies and working closely with staff and member schools.

    Assist in the creation and enforcement of behavior, attendance, and learning contracts for at-risk students. Coordinate student referrals for intervention, mental health services, and crisis management. Work with special education staff to ensure students' needs are met in accordance with IEPs and other individualized learning plans. Collaborate with member school counselors, case managers, special education staff, and other personnel to ensure effective communication and service delivery.

    Supervise and assist in the preparation of progress reports for students receiving special services, providing necessary updates to member school staff. Assist the Assistant Principal in the coordination and oversight of extracurricular activities such as SkillsUSA, field trips, and National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) events. Support the planning and execution of student-centered events such as awards nights, recruitment activities, and fundraising efforts.
  • School Community Relations:
    Support the Assistant Principal of Student Services in maintaining positive relationships with parents, faculty, and students. Assist in addressing concerns and inquiries from parents and the broader school community. Work with other school leaders to foster positive relationships between the school and the surrounding community.

  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the school.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to speak, write, and comprehend instructions in English.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and move around as necessary to perform duties.
  • Ability to engage in frequent communication, both verbal and written, with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and sometimes high-pressure environment.
