Job OverviewThe middle school dean of students provides leadership and direction in supporting and promoting a safe learning environment for each student.
Qualifications- A current Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Administrative endorsement – Preferred
- At least five years teaching experience
- Knowledge of Middle School Philosophy
- Extensive knowledge in social-emotional learning and student discipline
- Responds to parent, student and staff concerns in a supportive and timely manner
- Assists school staff and substitutes with their concerns regarding student conduct
- Collaborates with staff (in a non-evaluative manner) to build stronger relationships with students in regards to classroom management and behavioral interventions
- Serves as a vital member of the building Problem Solving Team
- Assists with school wide efforts related to school culture, climate, character education, social-emotional well being and behavioral initiatives, in line with CCSD 46 initiatives
- Monitors, organizes, and provides leadership in the area of attendance improvement efforts
- Establishes methods to seek feedback from students to gain insight into their perceptions about how the school wide culture is supporting their academic, social, emotional and character development
- Assists leadership in the planning and direction of assemblies and special events
- Builds and models positive relationships with all students
- Involved in the development and implementation of proactive behavior intervention programs for students
- Motivates students in a positive direction that will allow them to increase individual decision‑making responsibilities
- Communicates with parents, teachers, special services department, support personnel, and students on matters of student’s needs, plans and discipline for student success
- Collects and analyzes data to monitor and assess current student behavior and to develop new programs or systems to enhance the learning experience for students for the future
- Takes a leadership role in maintaining and supervising a safe learning environment
- Assists with facilitation and implementation of all activities related to school-wide emergency preparedness initiatives
- Participates on Building Safety Team
- Assists in the communication of the school safety plans to students and colleagues
- Supervises and supports student arrival and dismissal process
