Sign Language Interpreter in Grayslake, IL

Make a meaningful impact by supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter in a school environment. Two contract positions are available, offering rewarding opportunities to contribute directly to student learning and engagement.

These roles focus on providing direct interpretation for students in classroom and school settings, helping to create an inclusive, accessible educational experience. Positions are located at John Powers Center in Vernon Hills and at a high school in Grayslake, with consistent weekday schedules and school holidays observed.

Qualifications/Desired

Experience:

• Valid certification, including: EIPA score of 3.5 or higher with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) approval, or EIPA score of 3.0-3.4 with ISBE Interim Approval
• Alternatively, BEI, ISAS, CI/CT, or NIC credentials with ISBE Approval
• Experience working as a sign language interpreter in educational settings preferred
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
• Ability to adapt in a dynamic classroom environment and support diverse learning needs

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time interpretation between students, staff, and peers using American Sign Language (ASL)
• Facilitate effective communication during classroom instruction, activities, assemblies, and school events
• Support understanding and engagement for students with hearing needs
• Maintain ethical standards of confidentiality and professionalism at all times
• Collaborate with educators, staff, and families to optimize learning outcomes

What to Expect:

• Full-time and part-time schedules available, Monday through Friday
• Assignments beginning as soon as possible and extending through the end of May 2027
