Position: Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant-General Cardiology, Part-time, Days

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $61.00 – $79.67 per hour. Placement within the range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement is guided by the collective bargaining agreement.

Schedule

Part‑time day hours (0.6 FTE – 24 hours per week): 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. No holidays or weekends.

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities, including diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems.
  • Responsible for the health outcome of an assigned patient population.
  • Confers with collaborating physicians and other health professionals in the area of clinical expertise.
  • Develops appropriate educational systems for patients, families, and staff.
  • Mentors graduate students in aspects of advanced practice and patient care.
  • Actively participates in quality improvement and/or research pertinent to the area of expertise.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive appraisals of patients’ health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations.
  • Provide direct clinical care to patients.
  • Prescribe/orders medications, therapies; order/interpret laboratory tests, x‑rays and procedures according to clinical privileges.
  • Evaluate patients to determine need for further health care.
  • Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
  • Document all care, education, or procedures performed in the medical record.
  • Refer to other disciplines when appropriate.
  • Consult with other disciplines in areas of expertise.
  • Integrate research‑based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making.
  • Exemplify a professional image in appearance, manner, and presentation.
  • Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community.
  • Maintain certifications and continuing education required for licensure and privileging.
  • Serve as a patient advocate and role model for “Patients First.”
  • Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees or task forces as appropriate.
  • Provide comprehensive teaching strategies for patients and families.
  • Develop and participate in programs to meet continuing education needs of staff.
  • Serve as a role model and preceptor to students.
  • Provide formal education to internal and external groups relevant to the area of specialty.
  • Participate in quality improvement and/or research initiatives for the specific patient population as appropriate.
Qualifications – Required
  • Master’s degree from an accredited school of nursing or an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in Illinois and license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Illinois, or current license as a Physician Assistant in Illinois.
  • Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board, or certification as a Physician Assistant.
  • Privileged and credentialed through the Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office (MSO).
  • Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – BLS issued by the American Heart Association.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • 2 years of cardiology experience.
