General Statement

Business Advisors support designated groups of 5-7 business owners as they complete the main 10

KSB deliverables: a written growth plan and growth pitch. A full-time BA typically oversees 2-3 groups of business owners, while a PT BA would have one or two groups.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meets with each business owner on an individual basis approximately 8-10 times to guide business growth and completion of the Growth Plan.
  • Works with business owners to collect, understand, and apply business metrics to support growth.
  • Participates in bi-weekly team meetings that focus on the business owner support system to identify business owner’s needs and brainstorm how to meet those needs using the broader delivery team network.
  • Keeps other BAs informed about upcoming national BA calls or correspondence to ensure consistency of program delivery.
  • Communicates with alumni on an as needed basis to facilitate completion of post-program surveys and recruiting efforts.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, entrepreneurship, sales or related field, is required. Advanced degree welcomed.
  • A minimum of three years successful experience in business advising for a small business clientele.
  • Strong understanding of financial forecasting and construction of small business financial statements.
  • Proven ability to work in a diverse team environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and comfort with problem-solving.
  • Must have strong time management skills, a customer service orientation, and high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple tasks/projects at a time while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Experience with MS Office tools (Word, PowerPoint Excel, e.g.) and a willingness to learn new tools (e.g., Canvas, Live Plan, Salesforce, Zoom, etc.)

  • Work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrate a passion for supporting rural communities and helping small businesses grow.
  • Be a natural connector with strong interpersonal skills and a genuine enjoyment of relationship-building, especially by phone.
  • Possess cultural awareness and the ability to connect authentically with diverse audiences.
  • Experience teaching or facilitating educational sessions in-person and/or online especially business educational programs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Iocal region’s small business and economic development landscape is strongly preferred.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills.
