Summary of the positionLogistics Specialist also known as a Technical Services Librarian, the behind-the-scenes powerhouse of a library, responsible for organizing, maintaining, and optimizing access to materials—both physical and digital.
Cataloging & Classification- Create and maintain catalog records using standards like MARC, RDA, and Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress systems.
- Assign subject headings and classification codes to ensure materials are easily discoverable.
- Select and purchase books, journals, media, and digital resources.
- Collaborate with vendors and manage budgets to ensure cost-effective acquisitions.
- Evaluate and weed outdated or damaged materials.
- Develop and maintain metadata for digital collections to enhance searchability.
- Update bibliographic and authority records to reflect new acquisitions, withdrawals, and changes in item status.
- Ensure consistency in naming conventions and subject terms across the catalog.
- Oversee conservation efforts including binding, digitization, and environmental monitoring.
- Implement disaster planning and archival procedures for rare or fragile materials.
- Updating the library’s website or checking broken links
- Designing web pages or coordinating with a webmaster for digital resource access
- Reviewing donated materials for duplicates
- Adding gift plates and sending acknowledgments
- Compiling usage statistics for annual reports
- Generating custom reports on collection health or acquisitions
- Clearance Requirement :
Secret - Veterans encouraged to apply.
- Standard office environment.
- Prolonged periods in stationary position at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move throughout the office, including across longer distances such as from the building entrance to the workspace.
