Join Our Team as a Lead Electrical Engineer - High Voltage Substation!
At CDM Smith, we're searching for a dynamic and passionate Lead Electrical Engineer to spearhead the design and implementation of extra high voltage (EHV) substations ranging from 230kV to 765kV. This role offers an exciting opportunity for you to blend technical expertise with leadership, where you'll engage directly with clients while guiding junior engineers in a collaborative setting.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:- Leading design and execution of EHV substation projects, focusing on safe and cost‑effective solutions.
- Serving as a technical authority and mentor, providing insights on engineering standards, codes, and best practices.
- Overseeing and validating technical deliverables, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
- Interfacing with clients, vendors, and stakeholders to define project scope and resolve technical challenges.
- Managing project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation effectively across multiple projects.
- Developing and reviewing critical engineering documents and specifications.
- Guiding junior engineers and designers to ensure high‑quality engineering deliverables.
- Conducting quality assurance reviews to align with internal quality management systems.
- Participating in business development initiatives, including proposal preparation and client presentations.
- Acting as the responsible engineer in charge (EOR) for assigned projects, ensuring technical integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or a related field, along with a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering.
- Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally based on project needs.
- Extensive experience in EHV substation design across a range of voltage classes (13.8 kV to 765 kV).
- Strong proficiency in physical design and protection & control systems.
- Experience in producing detailed engineering deliverables such as electrical diagrams and equipment specifications.
- Familiarity with advanced engineering studies and calculations, including surge protection and equipment sizing.
- Proficiency in software tools for lightning and grounding studies.
