Safety Engineer
The Safety Manager (Aviation) plans, implements, and coordinates safety and environmental programs in accordance with required regulations, procedures, and policies with primary focus on aviation. Facilitates identification of safety and environmental risks and promotes reduction or elimination of potential accidents, occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and safety‑related financial losses. Conducts safety assistance visits and training to ensure implementation of and compliance with safety directives.
- Collect data and analyze work environments, inspect workplaces for adherence to safety, health, and environmental regulations.
- Develop, administer, or enforce regulations and standards concerning civil aviation safety, including pilot competence, mechanics, and other airmen, as well as the safety aspects of aviation facilities, equipment, and procedures.
- Create, maintain, and communicate safety‑related policies and procedures, ensuring compliance.
- Determine the need for new policies, write, edit, and update documents, posters, and handbooks.
- Enforce safety policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate a safety‑first mentality and foster a culture that achieves low accident rates and minimal lost‑time injuries.
- Conduct incident investigations, including root‑cause analysis, and recommend and support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, Department of Transportation regulations, and Environmental Protection Agency requirements.
- Support the Safety Manager/ASO as directed.
- Coach, mentor, and advise all levels of the workforce to promote a safe work culture.
- Perform all other position‑related duties as assigned or requested.
- Degree from a two‑to‑four‑year technical institute or college or equivalent formal training or military experience.
- Seven (7) years of related experience as a Safety Trained Specialist.
- Preferred BS degree in an HSE‑related field (e.g., Occupational Safety and Health or Environmental Safety and Health).
- Occupational Health and Safety Technician certification.
- Completed OSHA 30‑hour course.
- In‑depth knowledge of the technical concepts, principles, and requirements associated with the work.
- Good written communication skills.
- Knowledge of word‑processing and integrated software applications.
- Organizational skills.
- Detail‑oriented work ability.
- Planning and organizing skills.
- Ability to work under deadlines.
- May require intermittent travel.
- Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET U.S. Government clearance. U.S. citizenship is required.
- Work is often sedentary but includes walking, bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting up to 50 pounds in terminal and flight‑line areas.
- Walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
- Type using a standard keyboard to communicate via e‑mail and software applications.
- Use finger dexterity; bend elbows/knees and reach above/below shoulders.
- Communicate by voice and ear over telephone.
- Distinguish color and judge three‑dimensional depth.
- May be required to lift objects not exceeding 50 pounds.
- Work in a normal office environment with controlled temperature and lighting.
- May require travel to and between CONUS/OCONUS locations.
- May require travel to remote or austere locations, or respond to extreme weather or rudimentary infrastructure conditions.
- May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engines.
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $99,000.00
