Responsibilities
  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return.
  • Answer questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store to help customers feel welcome, important and appreciated.
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons where applicable.
  • Follow present, future, seasonal and special ads; stay current with pricing and promotions.
  • Understand and operate the Point of Sale (POS) system, handle various tenders (Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, Rain checks, loyalty offers, coupons) and complete checkout procedures according to company policy.
  • Understand and adhere to company guidelines on cash shortages and/or overages; work to prevent loss.
  • Maintain awareness of restricted sale items (e.g., alcohol, tobacco, DVDs) and follow the rules for their sale.
  • Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
  • Provide support and assistance to customers, including direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults as needed.
  • Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions and notify store management; reinforce safety programs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate department or store manager of items in need of repair.
  • Create an environment where customers feel welcome and valued, including answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
  • Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment; manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information; follow directions and seek assistance to resolve issues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk
  • Greet, engage, and assist customers
  • Process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently
  • Understand the Point of Sale (POS) system and handle various tenders (Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, Rain checks, loyalty offers, coupons) according to company policy
  • Understand and adhere to the company’s limits on cash shortages and/or overages
  • Understand and adhere to guidelines on restricted sale items (e.g., alcohol, tobacco, DVDs)
