Responsible for safety, schedules and organization of lifeguards. Works to ensure the safety of the pool patrons. Work is performed under the direction and supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor and other supervisory staff.
- Ensures the safety of patrons and will be in rotation at times.
- Strictly enforces policies, rules and regulations to maintain a safe swimming environment and facility. Promptly warns users of any existing safety hazards to prevent accidents and minimize or eliminate hazardous situations.
- Provides on deck supervision by continuously circulating and monitoring pool and deck.
- Conducts programs in the pool including swimming lessons, special events, and aquatic programs.
- Completes Head Guard checklist and daily records relating to rescue assists, first aid, weather conditions, sanitation and patrons as required.
- Responds quickly to all emergency situations and administers first aid, CPR or AED if necessary.
- Contacts emergency medical personnel when a serious injury occurs and reports such incidents to the Aquatics Supervisor immediately.
- Assists in the cleaning and proper maintenance of the equipment and the assigned facility.
- Creates daily schedules and rotations for pool staff.
- Signs and documents all timecards and deposits from neighborhood pools.
- Accesses fund and distributes cash to cashiers at the beginning of the day and throughout the day at neighborhood pools.
- Directs and oversees the tasks of the junior lifeguards.
- Provides positive daily customer interaction.
- Participates in rotation schedule as needed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned and required.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate.
- Must be certified or have the ability to obtain certification in CPR/PR, AED, oxygen administration, disease transmission, and first aid.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be a skilled swimmer and able to pull weight through the water.
- Must be physically able to rescue someone drowning or injured in the water.
- Employee must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Montana driver’s license.
- CPO, WSI, and LGI certifications, preferred.
- Ability to enforce pool regulations and rules while conducting classes to ensure a quality experience and safety of the patrons.
- Excellent and attentive observational skills with ability to observe daily operations of aquatic facility and its patrons.
- Ability to resolve problems and answer questions in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to fill any staff position when necessary.
- Thorough knowledge of the use and applications of water rescue methods and lifesaving, first aid practices and techniques, CPR and AED.
- Ability to report for work on time, in proper attire, well-groomed appearance and conduct, on and off the job.

WORK ENVIRONMENTWhile performing the duties of this position, employees may be exposed to adverse weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind and to chemicals used in cleaning and sanitation of pools.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to swim, stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds. When more than 50 pounds employees are encouraged to use a team lift. Possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to use pool equipment;
the ability to talkand hear in person or by telephone; and the ability to see and read instructions.
The work week is Sunday through Saturday with a varying schedule. This short-term position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working.
TRAVELTravel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
