Essential Job Functions- The Judiciary Clerk is an entry-level clerical position performing duties and responsibilities in the civil unit for Prince George?s County District Court. The incumbent processes cases by entering data into the system, assigning trial dates, generating notices, and accepting filings in Odyssey. Enters service and processes motions in accordance with established guidelines. Assists the public and court personnel by telephone and in person at the service counter.
- Processes new case information by entering data into the system, assigns trial dates as needed, and mails paperwork for service of process.
- Enters service of process or non-est. service of process into the system.
- Processes motions by entering data into the system, forwards cases to the judge and enters final determinations by the judge into the database.
- Processes post-judgement requests, inputs the information into the system and mails paperwork for service of process as needed.
- Greets and assists customers by telephone and at the service counter with information about cases and court policy and procedure.
- Education:
High school diploma (or GED equivalent). - Experience:
One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services. - Note:
A Bachelor’s Degree may substitute the required work experience. - Note:
A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience. - Knowledge: A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.
- Knowledge:
General office practices, procedures, and equipment. - Knowledge:
Standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary. - Knowledge:
Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. - Skill In:
Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently. - Skill In:
Typing on a personal computer. - Skill In:
Accuracy and attention to detail. - Ability To:
Use standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, cash register, scanner, fax machine, etc. - Ability To:
Use and maintain numerical filing system to locates files, until all cases are completely scanned. - Ability To:
Communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively with judges, the public, police agencies, attorneys, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing. - Ability To:

Exercise tact, diplomacy, and impartiality in dealing with the public, law enforcement personnel, and attorneys. - Ability To:

Exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying appropriate policy, procedure, rule, law, and/or regulation to a situation.
