The Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Executive Administrative Aide to the Sheriff position, grade G21, in the Execute Administration Division.
About the PositionThis is the highest level of responsible secretarial and administrative support work in the county. As such, incumbents are restricted to reporting to the highest level of County officials (i.e., County Executive, Council Administrator, County Council Chairman, Department Head). An employee at this level performs highly responsible administrative and executive secretarial work characterized by managing and coordinating overall office duties and activities.
An incumbent may provide administrative/secretarial support to an independent board or commission. Work requires knowledge and experience and initiative to perform assignments not covered by established procedures. Employees exercise sound independent judgment. Typically, incumbents supervise and develop innovative practices to improve office efficiency. Contacts are diverse, valuing County employees, elected officials, business organizations and citizens.
The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff has been a vital link in the criminal justice system for more than 300 years, providing the citizens of Prince George’s County with professional, transparent, and effective law enforcement service. The Office of the Sheriff serves as the law enforcement arm of the courts, responding to domestic violence calls, processing warrants, civil papers, domestic violence peace and protective orders, Emergency Psychiatric Petition (E.P.S.) orders, and the execution of evictions.
The Office of the Sheriff is also responsible for court security, providing security and protection for visitors to our courthouses and securing courtrooms and holding areas. Deputies transport prisoners and are responsible for extraditing fugitives from other states.
- Coordinates special projects to relieve Sheriff and office staff of a variety of professional, technical and administrative details using professionalism and tact.
- Monitors the Sheriff’s requests for information from departments/agencies to keep informed regarding the status of time sensitive projects using time management techniques
- Maintains working knowledge of all projects being handled by the Sheriff using acquired organizational and time-management skills.
- Drafts correspondence for signature of the Sheriff as required, using the County's computer system.
- Acts as liaison among the Sheriff, departmental staff: departments and agencies, and private sector using knowledge of County procedures.
- Schedules, reschedules and shifts appointments and meetings to ensure the Sheriff attends all scheduled appointments on time using various scheduling tools.
